Peace run

23/06/2024

Sunday June 23rd we had a wonderful Peace Run event in the South of the Netherlands together with our German friends. We started the day with a visit to the Meru meditation centre, International Headquarters of the Maharishi Yogi Transcendental Meditation group. A beautiful place in nature, in Vlodrop, where we were warmly welcomed and started our run with a powerful and blessingful incantation-blessing in Sanskrit for the Peace Run Torch and Peace Run by the pandit/priest.
We then started running with 4 lovely brother-sister souls from the Maharishi ashram. They came all the way with us to the Vaalseberg where we had a meeting later that day at 16.00.
We ran together that day for about 40 km and the last part was uphill to the (charming) height of 322 meters… the highest point of the Netherlands!!

Accompanied with a banner and an accordeon playing the Peace Run song (yes, Pramodan can run and play!), we arrived at the Touristic Vaalseberg top which is also a three country point, connecting Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
We had a ceremony at the Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossom Plaque together there on top of the mountain with the followers of the Maharishi Yogi and Geert Driessen, General Manager of the Labyrint on the Mountain and great and wonderful host of our visit.
After the ceremony we visited the unique and new natural labyrint and had a wonderful buffet to end a beautiful, inspiring and sunny day filled with new connections, inspiration, peace and joy.

Self-Transcendence race

24/05/2024

The harsh weather conditions made this edition of the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 50km and 100km one of the toughest in our history. For about two hours in the middle of both races, the rain poured down on the runners. The course, which largely runs on unpaved forest paths, became slippery and muddy in some places. No one kept it dry and every running shoe was soaked to the fibers. Nevertheless, there were few quitters, many finishers and fast times. It proves once again that ultrarunners are made of tough stuff.

On the 50 and 100 kilometers, it was the ‘youngsters’ who ruled the roost this year for both men and women.
Among the women, Iris Vromans dominated the 50 kilometers and ran very strongly with a time of 4:04:06, followed by Eline Gerritse (4:43:47) and the Belgian Isabel Sampson (4:57:55).
Among the men, the British Daniel Lockyer and the Amsterdammer Ruben Weijers led almost the entire race together. A few laps before the end, Weijers attacked and eventually won in a sharp time of 3:44:24, followed just a few minutes by Lockyer. Third place went to Frank Meiland in 3:55:20.

On the 100 kilometers, Harm Wiegers achieved one of the fastest times ever run at our ultra. He wanted to set a good time and despite the rain and the boggy course he succeeded wonderfully and even broke the 8-hour barrier in a finishing time of 7:57:53. Luuk van der Jagt came second and Henry Tol took bronze.
Of the four women who started the 100km, three eventually finished, two of which were just outside the official deadline of 12 hours. The winner was the experienced Amsterdam Miranda Mandjes in 11:31:07. Her husband Michel ran the 50km with us this year and managed to take third place in the Men 50-59 years.

Our 6-hour run will take place on Saturday, September 28, again in the Amsterdamse Bos.

35 years of Madal Bal

01/04/2023

On April 1st, 1988, Madal Bal opened its doors to customers for the first time. Our store was much smaller and was located on the other side of the street at the time. Yet we can still recognise some faces from the early days, both among our customers and staff.

To celebrate 35 wonderful years of serving our community, we held a special anniversary event. For 35 years, Madal Bal has been committed to providing the finest organic products as well as health advice, and we were delighted to mark this milestone with our loyal customers.

Those who attended enjoyed delicious snacks and drinks, friendly conversations, and exclusive discounts. Loyal customers also received goody bags filled with our lovely products. The day was made even more special by our friend Vapushtara from Amsterdam, who uplifted the atmosphere with his beautiful piano music.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this significant milestone. Your support over the years has been great, and we look forward to many more years of serving you with the best organic products.
